Think and Grow Rich

Napoleon Hill wrote the book “Think and Grow Rich”. It holds the distinction of being one of the number one bestsellers of all time! It dwells on self-development, which Hill called “the Philosophy of Achievement”. He said he knew the secret of achievement, and yet he never specifically unveiled in his writings. He felt it was up to the reader to work it out for him or herself. In this way the eventual “Eureka” would prove to be a much more significant learning experience than having the information spoon fed, piece by piece.

The birth of this monumental writing project that was in the fullness of time to turn into “Think and Grow Rich”, commenced in 1908 when Hill was assigned to interview steel magnate and multi-millionaire Andrew Carnegie. Carnegie was insistent that the secret of success could be spelled out via a simple formula that most people would find easy to replicate. As a result of the meeting, in which he was so impressed by Hill that he commissioned him to question 500 successful people to ascertain whether his and their success secrets were the same. If they were, he charged Napoleon Hill to publish the results for the entire world to see!

To complete the project Hill interviewed many of the rich and famous of the day. His list of subjects included Thomas Edison, telephone inventor Alexander Graham Bell, camera manufacturer Thomas Eastman, automobile producer Henry Ford, a Rockefeller, candy tycoon Wrigley, Woolworth and American Presidents Teddy Roosevelt, Roosevelt’s successor William Taft and his follow on Woodrow Wilson. The author quickly discovered he had embraced an enormous task. A work that was to take him twenty years to complete. In 1928 Carnegie and Hill wrote a book and published the results in “The: Law of Success.”

Hill later distilled the success formula and this became the international bestseller “Think and Grow Rich” which came out in 1937. The book has sold more than 30 million copies since it initially appeared. This success prescription is a version of the famous “Carnegie Secret”. This Hill was told if taught to students would cut the time spent in school by half. The author described it as “a conception which is the foundation of all success.” He reiterates the secret in every chapter of the book, but in an oblique fashion.

What is their secret? For starters.”What you focus on you will attract.” This attraction is like magnetism and will bring the people and opportunities into your life to make the goal possible. It is important that your have fire in the belly and all consuming desire to meet the objective. If your desire is great enough then nothing can stop you achieving your goal! He called this phenomenon “the law of like minded attraction”. There is a codicil, however, and that dictates the desire must be for the greater good of all. Moreover, Hill stresses that those who are prepared to use this formula in their lives will achieve riches in many forms. Several people who have followed the teachings of “Think and Grow Rich” have become phenomenally successful including the billionaire Arthur Wiilliams.

Perhaps, you too have discovered some secrets about the infallible laws of the Universe that have changed your life and you feel could help others in a similar way to Hill’s revelations in “Think and Grow Rich.” Perhaps, the time has come to embark on that project and change your life to quote Napoleon Hill: ”Whatever the mind of man can conceive and believe it can achieve!”
