'Think and Grow Rich' by Napoleon Hill (from Inspirational Books - Part One Updated)

by Craig Lock

'THINK AND GROW RICH' by Napoleon Hill
(Part One - from Inspirational Books)

Introduction:
This article is extracted from (and a summary of) a most inspirational book by Napoleon Hill titled 'Think and Grow Rich' (publisher Melville Powers, US) from notes that I've taken over the years. I am sharing the contents of this ground-breaking work in this field, together with additional comments based on my own experiences) in the spirit of encouraging and hopefully even inspiring those people, who really want to "achieve unlimited success" to read this 'classic' , fascinating book, apply the principles.. .and see what happens.

Craig has been studying the principles of success (and successful living) and researching the amazing powers of the human mind
for the past decade and is sharing his insights with the aim of
helping others reach their full potentials in life. That is my reason for sharing this piece - to encourage others to follow their personal dreams.

Thank you sincerely, Mr Hill for sharing your words of
wisdom ...and in so doing, in encouraging me to follow my "untrodden path" with passion and reach for my personal dreams.

*
What makes some people successful?
Firstly,
the secrets lie in knowing what you really want? .
DEFINE it!
PLAN ahead carefully... HOW will you BEST achieve the object of your desires, your aspirations and even fulfil your dreams. Leave to the subconscious mind, which works 24/7. Pray, if you are a "religiously -minded" person. Riches are not beyond you.
It may be the turning point of your life. All achievement, all earned riches, have their beginning in an idea!
The power of your mind signals success. Riches begin with a state of mind, a definiteness of purpose and DESIRE is the well-spring of all achievement.

Don't quit too soon. Don't be beaten by temporary defeat. Convert defeats to stepping stones of opportunity. For many successful people their greatest success usually comes one step after your last defeat (don't stop digging when you are two feet away from the gold).
This is a great little poem...

"If you think you're beaten, you are;
If you think you dare not, you don't;
If you'd like to win, but think, you can't
It's almost a cinch you won't.
If you think you will lose, you're lost;
For out in the world we find,
Success begins with a fellow's will,
It's all in the state of mind.

If you think you're outclassed, you are;
You've got to think high to rise.
You've got to hustle before
You can ever win a prize.
Life's battles don't always go
To the stronger or faster man,
But sooner or later the man who wins
Is the one who THINKS he CAN."

- Walter D. Wintle, "The Man Who Thinks He Can"

"When riches begin to come, they come so quickly, in such great abundance, that one wonders where they have been hiding during all those lean years."

Impossible? Henry Ford told engineers to cast the V8 block. His words to them: "Stay on the job until you are successful, no matter how much time it takes." Know what you want.* That is the key to success in any endeavour.
Poet Henley: "I am the master of my fate, I am the captain of my soul." Because we humans have the power to CONTROL our thoughts... and our thinking determines our future..

Maintain a spirit of open-mindedness.

* PURPOSE: A strong man can be defeated by a child who has a purpose.

"Whatever the mind of man can conceive and believe, it can achieve."

Step one towards riches: DESIRE. WHAT do you really want?
KNOW what you really want to do, to achieve in your life. DEFINE IT. Put it down in writing. Aim for CLARITY in your thinking.
"When you create clarity in your desires, you set out with an INTENTION and intention FOCUSSES the human mind. It engraves it deeply into our consciousness. Then when you move that intention forward each day you build up energy. Every small action you take each day then creates momentum, like a ball of snow rolling down a mountainside getting ever greater.

You will move in the direction of your most dominant thoughts.
Dreams come true, when desire transforms them into concrete action. Ask life for great gifts and you encourage life to deliver them to you. Have no way to retreat - me!
"Burn your boats." "Win or perish" - develop the mindset of a warrior.
*
Seven Steps that Turn Desire into Gold:

1. Fix the exact amount of money you require (if that is what you really want most out of life):
Have a date, plan, a time for achieving your financial goals; then read out this statement (either to yourself, or someone else). Doing this embeds it in your consciousness, so it becomes a focus.

"Definiteness of purpose, knowledge of what one wants, and a burning desire to possess it is the key to success in any endeavour in life."

Your greatest obstacles, your grandest predicament may be your greatest opportunities.

Albert Einstein said: "In the middle of every difficulty lies
opportunity. " Once discovered, such opportunities are like
valuable diamonds hidden in the sand.

"How far you go in life depends on your being tender with the
young, compassionate with the aged, sympathetic with the
striving, and tolerant of the weak and strong.
Because someday in your life you will have been all of these."
- George Washington Carver (American inventor and horticulturist)

Stay positive and optimistic in the face of adversity. John Bunyan wrote 'Pilgrims Progress' after being confined to prison and punished for his religious views. Dickens began by pasting labels on blacking pots (David Copperfield) . Helen Keller was deaf, dumb and blind - a true inspiration to humanity. There is strong evidence that no one is ever defeated, until defeat has been accepted as a reality - in the mind!
The great Scottish poet, Robert Burns was an illiterate country lad - poor and a drunkard. Beethoven was deaf and John Milton blind.
So develop an attitude of "never giving up" on your vision (grand).

STEP TWO: FAITH through affirmations (repetitions to the subconscious mind). Faith gives power to thought. Faith is indispensable to success.
You can think yourself to into disaster. Expect a favourable outcome to your endeavours. EXPECT SUCCESS!

"Faith sees the invisible and achieves the impossible."

"You are as great as your faith, as small as your ego."
- Shimon Peires (former Israeli Prime Minister)

"Faith is the pillar of strength that allows man to achieve the impossible, reach the unattainable and solve the unfathomable. "

Faith (strong) is the basis of Christianity. GIVE before you get. Gandhi had no money, no home, no suit of clothes; but he did HAVE POWER. Gandhi got it through FAITH and transplanted the idea into the 200 million people of India, leading them to independence from Britain..

Riches begin inside the man - in the form of thoughts and your faith removes your limitations. (Both poverty and riches are the offspring of faith).
You don't have to know HOW you are going to do it,to achieve your goals and fulfill your deepest aspirations and dreams;
but just KNOW that you one day you WILL...by simply taking one small step after another in faith and watch God, the Universe draw blessings towards you.

HAVE GREAT DESIRE AND THE MIND THEN FINDS A WAY. There are no limitations to the mind, except those we acknowledge. There is nothing which BELIEF, plus burning DESIRE cannot make real. Desire builds victory out of temporary defeat. These "God-given" qualities are free to everyone.

STEP 3: AUTOSUGGESTION: See yourself making money. Visualise it. You are master of your own destiny. Man may become the master of himself; because he has the power to influence his own subconscious mind. We have the power of choice in our actions (why we are "spiritual beings on an earthly existence" .

STEP 4: SPECIALIZED KNOWLEDGE: Professors of universities (like most writers and artists) are generally poor. They have lots of knowledge and teach it; but many don't USE it. However, knowledge is so easy to acquire (especially these days with the 'net'). Knowledge paves the road to riches - when you know which road to take.

Where to find it:

* your own experiences.
* universities.
* education
* libraries
and
* special training courses, night schools, etc.

Successful people never stop acquiring knowledge. SPECIALISE and develop a niche for yourself in your area of expertise.
You will be in demand, as specialists are sought after people and get rewarded accordingly.

STUDY.
It's never too late to stop learning. Market yourself effectively. If you don't want to sell a product, you can sell your services or your ideas at a very good price.
Knowledge is only potential power - you first have to USE it.

5. FOCUS on your most important goals, your priorities.
"If you can do the common things in life in an uncommon way,
you will command the attention of the world."
George Washington Carver (1864 -1943... again)

6. Develop SELF DISCIPLINE (and persistence) .
Say: 'I WILL UNTIL!"

DO NOT QUIT. NEVER.

"When things go wrong, as they sometimes will,
When the road you're trodding seems all uphill,
When the funds are low and the debts are high,
and you want to smile, but you have to sigh,
when care is pressing you down a bit --
rest if you must, but don't you quit!"
- Author Unknown

"All the world loves a winner and has no time for a loser."
So don't linger at the bottom of the "barrel".

and finally and most importantly. ..

7. ("lucky")
ATTITUDE: 'Your attitude will determine your altitude.'
A positive attitude towards life is probably the single most important characteristic on the path to success...
and always remember that "the road to success is always under construction" .
Be rich in spirit (most important of all, rather than striving for and achieving material wealth)

"God desires us to soar with the eagles...and not scratch with the turkeys and sparrows."

Happy soaring

Eagle Productions

"Eagles may fly high,
but weasels don't get sucked into jet engines."

" I truly believe we can ALL create and enthuse magic into
'so-called humdrum little lives'. You don't just have to be
the choreorapher, or the conductor of your life script -
rather paint your life as the masterpiece it could (one day)
be. There is a rich tapestry of talent in every human soul,
that flows through the spirit of God. So don't spend your
days stringing and tuning your instrument; start making and
playing your unique tunes of music right now."
- craig

"Success to others may be apparent in what you DO; but
significance, meaning and purpose lies, then reveals itself
in what you ARE and BECOME down the 'river of life' - how
and the spirit with which you face, then overcome the daily
obstacles, the frequent trials and tribulations along the
often rocky path-way of life's magical and mysterious
journey.
Light your path brightly."

How To Create Positive Affirmations

How To Create Positive Affirmations
By Pete A Turner

Creating positive affirmations is the first step in changing your self image and more forward on the road to success. Positive affirmations counter negative self talk by focusing you on your strengths and skills instead of your failings. Here's how to create positive affirmations:

1. Have a vision: Picture in your mind a positive outcome for your action. Your subconscious mind will
begin guiding you helping you make your vision a realty.

2. Begin your affirmation with "I" For example: "I am a great salesperson."

3. Use the present tense: Write your affirmation as if it is already accomplished.

4. Use short powerful sentences.

5. Believe in yourself. Make your affirmation believable.

6. Have faith in a power greater than you that wants only good for you.

7. Put these affirmations where you can see them and repeat them constantly.

8. Open your mind and heart to the unlimited possibilities and riches of the universe.

A great way to reinforce these positive affirmations is to set aside time everyday for meditation. By meditating even 5 or 10 minutes a day you will begin impressing these affirmations in your subconscious mind. As stated earlier you mind will begin acting on these affirmations, believing there are true and finding ways to bring them to fruition.

Read self improvement books and or listen to CD's that offer positive reinforcement. One book I highly recommend is "The Science of Getting Rich". This book is the fore runner of the popular best seller "The Secret". The Science of Getting Rich will guide you through the steps toward creating success and riches. This book could literally change your life. Follow these steps and with persistence you can reduce and eliminate negative self talk and begin living a more positive, confident life.

Positive Affirmations

By Luke Blaise

What are affirmations, positive affirmations, and how can we use them to propel our lives forward? Once you start using affirmations in your life you will learn how powerful they can be.

Affirmations are a statement of what you want or how you intend your life to be. Affirmations should be positive affirmations, meaning they should be about what you want, not on what you don’t want.

One classic example of a positive affirmation is this: ‘every day in every way I’m feeling better and better.’ This one has a lot of history behind it. It was created by a physician in Europe to try and help his patients heal faster. He recognized decades ago the power that the mind has over the body and the environment.

If you have done affirmations you are likely aware of how powerful they can be. Use them as a constant reminder of what you want out of life.

How often do we say affirmations?

It seems like most people that promote using affirmations don’t specify how often to do them, but most say at least daily. Again this isn’t very specific. I try to do my affirmations at least 3 times a day and repeat them about 10 times with emotion, with or without vocalizing them depending on where I’m at.

How long do we say these affirmations?

I was watching a program featuring T. Harv Eker, author of the Millionaire Mind and he had a great answer for this question. His answer was to do affirmations until you achieve them. A simple and to the point answer, but not necessarily obvious to everyone.

Think And Grow Rich: Book :By Napolean Hill

Think and Grow Rich by Napolean Hill has sold consistently since its first publishing. Think and Grow Rich is one of those books which makes a lasting impression. Think and Grow Rich is the culmination, and THOUSANDS of successful people owe their success to this book, and they're happy to tell you so. Think and Grow Rich is the best. Think And Grow Rich would be the thoughts of a king filled with determination and an idea so ingrained inside of him that it could be called a burning desire. Think and Grow Rich is a timeless classic and should be read by students of business, people with entrepreneurial spirit, and anybody who is interested in furthering their lives and reaching their goals.

Think And Grow Rich

Think and Grow Rich is currently ranked #9 on the Business Week Best-Seller List for paperback business books and has been on the afore mentioned list for 22 months as of April 2007. The secret of Achievement was tantalizingly offered to readers of Think and Grow Rich, and was never named directly as Hill felt discovering it for themselves would provide readers with the most benefit In 1937 Hill distilled the Philosophy of Achievement and produced his most famous work, Think and Grow Rich, which is still in print in several versions, and has sold more than thirty million copies. ” In Think and Grow Rich, Hill discusses his creation of Master Mind groups and how these groups could multiply an individual's brain power and continually motivate positive emotions.

Grow Rich

This combination creates winning lessons that will serve you well as you learn to think and grow rich. This book is an eBook reproduction of the complete and original 1937 version of Think and Grow Rich by Napoleon Hill, originally published by The Ralston Society and now in the public domain. Every book, tape, CD, DVD, or other product on personal success that has been produced since Think and Grow Rich. Walk into any well-stocked bookstore in America and you will find a few paperback copies of Think and Grow Rich.

Napolean Hill Book

His most famous work, Think and Grow Rich, is one of the best-selling books of all time. Hill's numerous books have sold millions of copies, proving that the secret of Achievement is still highly sought-after by modern Americans. Acquiring the Carnegie Secret of Achievement, Hill said after his own books were in wide circulation, could only be had by those "ready" for it; this meant understanding the entire Philosophy including elements such as the Golden Rule, Faith, and Desire. A good part of Hill's book is simply the gospel of 20th century American Capitalism:work hard, have a firm handshake, get ahead by doing quality work, treat your customers with respect, anybody can become rich and/or powerful if they overcome their personal weaknesses.

Napolean Hill

Hill in his introduction to the book refers to the "Carnegie Secret", a conception which he reports is the foundation of all success and appears to be the premise of the book. Hill promises to indirectly describe this "secret" in every chapter, but never state it plainly, believing the use of the secret is only available to those who possess a "readiness" for it, a disposition Hill describes as essential to the concept itself. Hill's works examined the power of personal beliefs, and the role they play in personal success. Hill presented the idea of a "Definite Major Purpose" as a challenge to his readers, to make them ask of themselves "in what do you truly believe. Hill discovered that Carnegie believed that the process of success could be elaborated in a simple formula that could be duplicated by the average person. Hill stated many times in his writings that the success formula required a complete and total understanding of the spirit of giving.

Success Formula

" For according to Hill, 98% of people had no firm beliefs, putting true success firmly out of reach. As a result of these studies, the Philosophy of Achievement was offered as a formula for rags-to-riches success by Hill and Carnegie, published initially in 1928 as a study course called, The Law of Success. Hill was a devout Christian, and did not see any conflict between his success philosophy and his religious faith.

Napoleon Hill

Napoleon Hill encourages readers to go through this book at least three times. Napoleon Hill, America's most beloved motivational author, devoted 25 years to finding out how the wealthy became that way. Napoleon Hill’s plan will inspire you, motivate you, and enable you to make your dreams come true.

Free

In America, Hill stated in his writings, people are free to believe what they want to believe, and this is what sets the United States apart from all other countries in the world.

Positive Affirmations - Positive Affirmations May Not Be Positive

By Israel Goldman

Positive affirmations can only work well if they are applied carefully. This is one area where even the top self help gurus did not make it clear to most folks.

Just think about it, do you make these highly-overlooked mistakes with positive affirmations?

• Repeating your positive affirmations many times a day. (Just like a loud & noisy gong.)

• Writing an affirmation that you have difficulty believing in. (You can say what you want but if you do not believe it in your heart, you can forget about achieving it.)

• Using only conscious affirmations. (You forgot to feed your subconscious mind with some subliminal audio or brain wave audio or binaural audio.)

Here’s how you can fix these problems.

Repeating your positive affirmations is never good enough. First of all, write positive affirmations that you can believe. Short & simple messages work best.

As you read it, read it with emotions, close your eyes & visualize right after you read it.

Most audios that feed the subconscious mind will require stereo headphones for the effects to take place sooner. Earphones have much lesser effect.

What is easier than being in a relaxed position & simply listening to audio? Listening duration is not a problem, more than 10 – 15 minutes per session is fine. Listening frequency should be as often as daily to get the optimum effect.

In summary, affirm your subconscious as well as your conscious mind, do it frequency & see what you can achieve. You will be pleasantly surprised.

Positive Quotes and Affirmations

By Luke Blaise

Using positive quotes and affirmations can be a powerful addition to any self improvement program. There are numerous studies showing how powerful these techniques can be. So why aren’t you doing them?

Why do positive quotes and affirmations work so well? Well for most adults the overwhelming majority of our thoughts are negative. We didn’t always have such negative thoughts, as children we mostly had positive thoughts. Look at the children you know, the majority are happy and have positive thoughts, while the majority of adults we know have negative thoughts.

This is why positive quotes and affirmations can be so powerful in our lives. They give us the positive thoughts that we need to take our lives to the next level. By constantly telling ourselves great things and reminding ourselves about what we want to accomplish it is like we have a map leading directly to our goals.

If you aren’t using positive quotes and affirmations daily to improve your life and help you accomplish your goals, start today. Come up with some quotes and affirmations that inspire you and repeat them three times everyday to your self, until you accomplish what you want.

By incorporating positive quotes and affirmations into your self improvement program you can make achieving your goals more automatic. How? Habits are formed usually after 21 consecutive days of doing something. So if you can just keep this part of your program up for 21 days you will be automatically reminding yourself everyday about what and why you want to accomplish your goals.

A Simple Plan - How Do I Use the Law of Attraction? (Part 1)

by]Joel Chue

The Secret did a great job of introducing the law and showing us how we generally work against ourselves. However, many people were left wondering "how exactly do I use the law of attraction?"

Applying the law of attraction to manifest begins with three major factors. The first is our thoughts. We are what we think. The thoughts that are constantly in our mind become part of our reality. Yet, most of us keep negative thoughts in our minds on a daily basis. And there is need to change that.

Watch your thoughts. The easiest way to do this is to note how we are feeling. When we feel good, we are in positive vibration and send out positive manifestation energy out into the universe. When we are feeling bad, that is a red flag that we are holding thoughts that are not in our best interest.

Fortunately, there are several ways to think and feel positive easily.

Staying Positive Technique - Power of positive affirmations

What are positive thinking affirmations? Or more specifically what are affirmations? Affirmations are positive present tense self affirming statements you made to communicate to your subconscious mind.

By repeating positive thinking affirmations on a consistent basis, you can influence and reprogram the mind to weed out negative thoughts. Here are some tips to remember when making affirmations.

Positive Thinking Affirmations Tip #1

Affirmations have to be made in the present or past tense and never in the future tense. Being statements with "I am, I accept, I have."

Positive Thinking Affirmations Tip #2

Conviction and faith that positive thinking affirmations will work for you. You have to believe that you can stay positive minded with positive thinking affirmations. If you were to repeat your positive thinking affirmations with doubt, you would never get the results you desire.

Start watching your thoughts today. Be in control of your thoughts and feelings. Make affirmations part of your daily routine, it keeps you positive and act as a motivation booster as well!

One of the most effective ways to develop a positive attitude is through the practice of positive affirmations. What are positive affirmations? Positive affirmations are positive statements that are written in the first person, in the present, and are specific. Positive affirmations are retraining your subconscious mind to look and think positively at something rather than approaching something with a negative attitude. There have been many books written about positive affirmations as well as many audio books and seminars.

There are numerous ways to develop a positive attitude, and positive affirmations are one very effective method. Some experts suggest one of these ways to develop a positive attitude is to start your positive affirmations in front of a mirror. The following rules of thumb are helpful in putting your positive affirmations into use:

Some experts advise writing or typing out their affirmations up to 20 times per day.

A response column next to each affirmation my help get rid of any lingering negative thoughts - for every negative write the opposite in the positive form.

Write in the first person (I will create wealth).

Search out motivational/inspirational material to reaffirm your positive affirmations on a daily basis.

Consider stating your affirmations in front of a mirror or taping them to your mirror.

Vocalizing, actually speaking your affirmations engages more than one sense and makes more of an impact (see and hear them).

Affirmations must make a positive statement (I will create wealth).

Use your own name, as affirmations are more effective when you include your name.

Affirmations be written in the present tense - don't think of what you don't have today, think of yourself as already having these things today. Use words like "now" in your affirmations.

Affirmation need to be specific

Be in the present - don't think of what you don't have today, think of yourself as already having these things. Use words like "now" in your affirmations.

Affirmations are one of the ways to develop a positive attitude. The key is to choose to see things more positively, to engage in behaviors that will help you stay on the positive attitude track, and to believe that you are deserving of good things.

Self Help Books

Self Help Books

In the last twenty years people have been buying self help books like the end of the world is coming. It makes you wonder what people did to survive all this time. It seems there is a guide out there for every possible situation, problem, or lifestyle. I know that sometimes we really need guidance with something, but I think the amount of self help books out there is just this side of crazy. Doesn’t anyone know how to do anything anymore without some stranger telling them what to do?

I’m being a bit hard on self help books, I know that, but there are really good ones like think and grow rich by napolean hill the greatest book ever written on self help and there are some that are just plain worthless. The funny part is that the ones that are useless are the ones that seem to be the best sellers. There are indeed hard things to in life, and if you need help that you can get from a book, I think it’s wonderful that you can get that help. However, there are some things that are common sense. You don’t need self help books to help you with these things, and you aren’t giving yourself enough of a chance to think for yourself.

I have bought a few self help books in my day, and most of them saddened me when I finished them. I never found anything that I didn’t already know, and I wondered why so many people had to have what was contained within those self help books spelled out for them. My gut reaction was that many bought the books like I did hoping for some insight, only to feel just like me when they were done. Though there are some who just don’t know the basics, most of us don’t need these books to tell us what we already know.

There are some exceptionally good self help books out there, however, that I would hope anyone would buy if they felt the need. If you are living with someone who is abusive, is an alcoholic, or if someone has a life altering illness, you should get self help books to help you deal with what is going on. There are some situations and problems that really aren’t something we just know. When it comes to special circumstances like that, you need all the help you can get, and self help books are certainly a good first step towards healing the problem or situation.

What Attracts You

By Lillie Oliver
Every now and then some new concept or high tech tool comes along and tantalizes the minds of the multitudes. Depending on the magnitude of impact, often what effectively results vary from great strides and changes on personal levels to global scales. When it comes to the movie The Secret and its teachings about the law of attraction , there have been many people jumping on board as if it were a new and unheard of concept.

Positive affirmations and positive thinking and even the law of attraction, are not new to us. So why have so many people jumped on the ban wagon of manifestation this time around? One key factor might be the new way of explaining the scientific aspect behind the old idea.

Relating the power of though energy to the energy vibrations of everything around us is the skeptics smelling salts for many eye opening modes of thinking. Scientific discoveries, much like law, are fixed factors that stabilize and ground possibilities into sound beliefs. Thus getting the skeptic to understand the concept becomes the only challenge. Although we are continuously learning more, science has its undeniable concrete grounding effect.

Aside from the original movies teachings, another popular scientific discovery on this subject matter comes from a Quantum Physics discovery of how electrons change their behavior in reaction to being observed. Again, the science is proven and what remains is the understanding of it in relationships to manifesting.

In addition to the science of it all, titling the movie The Secret provoked curiosity as to when, what and where was the hidden concept in the first place. In response this may have been why it turned the heads of many Holy Doctrine devotees. Many found themselves seeking truth and proof of the science in scriptures in order that they might compare the potency of The Secrets message with Bible teachings. Some spiritual leaders sought to warn people to beware of false teachings and disprove it while others looked to enhance awareness for better understanding it.

Once knowing what the law of attraction is on the level of science, relating it to Biblical doctrine is easy. It is undeniable that thought effectualness is what Jesus was teaching when he said, when praying for something behave as if you have already received it. This was also what Jesus was trying to convey when he spoke to those he healed in saying, it was because of their belief that He was able to heal them. Another interesting interlocking of the law of attraction in relation to belief and biblical teaching is when Jesus told His disciples that if only they believed, they could tell a mountain to move itself into the ocean and it would. The amazing man Jesus who walked on water spoke of how our thinking was able to do much more than we imagined. This is confirmed again in His teaching that sinning in our thoughts is the same as sinning in the flesh. As a Master of masters, many religious scholars would not deny that Jesus's words are significant evidence that Bible teachings support the law of attraction concepts.

Another interesting perspective as to The Secrets depth of success should in deed be attributed to the makers of the film themselves. Surely they believed what they wanted to teach and utilized energies of visualizations, feelings, and thoughts for the movies success to reach the multitudes in understanding, applying, and changing the world for the better. Once the idea was conceived and great thinkers put into action, manifestation of a film that illuminated harmony and clear understanding was thus inevitability born.

In order to understand why The Secret has had such a powerful impact on the minds of so many who already knew the secret, one could say it is due to powerful impacts of new science, old religion and present day applications. Apparently this combination has shaken awake the giants of incredulity and shed the blankets of the dormant believers. We have only to wait and see what dreams may come of it all.

Think And Grow Rich: Book :By Napolean Hill

I have known for a long time that I have some very negative habits that hold me back. In many ways, I am disorganized, easily distracted, and not very focused on my goals. Although I have tried to implement the power of positive thinking in my own life with some success, I still can't get over the feeling that something is missing. I contemplated life coaching, therapy, and various other strategies to help me reprogram myself into a more driven, successful individual, but I felt lost by the maze of different options available. There is just simply too much out there and it is impossible to evaluate all of it. How was I ever to separate the wheat from the chaff?

I finally found a book Think and Grow Rich by Napolean Hill that seemed to be universally agreed upon as a good source for learning how to build your own personal wealth. It was a volume called Think and Grow Rich, written by someone who had studied Carnegie, Rockefeller, and many of the other self-made barons of well. I knew that it wasn't a very current text, but nonetheless it seemed like the best place to start. When you can't figure out what to do, always go back to the source texts. The earlier the text, the more likely it is that it will have the information in its most pure, undiluted form.

As it turned out, Think and Grow Rich by Napolean Hill was only a starting point. It told me a lot about how various wealthy people thought, and how their thought processes contributed to their accumulation of wealth, but it wasn't enough by itself. You see, I had so many entrenched bad habits that learning how to think and grow rich seemed like too much of a task to do alone.

Nevertheless, I worked on it every day. Every time I would see myself falling into old, negative habits, I would chant some positives affirmations internally. I would make lists of all of my tasks, and I would not rest until they were all completed. I knew that, if I wanted to think and grow rich, I needed to be ruthless in my pursuit of success. Soon, it was my first priority. It hasn't been easy, but I think I have made some progress towards growing wealthy. It isn't something that will happen overnight, but I think if I put a few years into it, things will turn around for me.

The 60 Books That Have Impacted My Life Most

Books are the quietest and most constant of friends; they are the most accessible and wisest of counsellors, and the most patient of teachers." - Charles W Eliot.

Charlie 'Tremendous' Jones, the founder and CEO of Executive Books once remarked, "You are the same today as you're going to be in five years except for two things, the people you meet and the books you read." May I also add the tapes/CD you listened to and the magazine/journals you read are also very important.

To me, reading is a way of life and one of the things I can spend any money on is buying books. I started the hobby in 1982 by buying three books of the late sage Chief Obafemi Awolowo namely ‘Voice of Reason’, ‘Voice of Courage’, and ‘Voice of Wisdom’. I remembered the book I read on my 21st birthday was ‘Think & Grow Rich’ by Napoleon Hill, and since then I have not looked back.

On September 5, 2004 after delivering an icebreaker speech at the Speakers of Croydon Toastmasters, Joe De Souza, one of my mentors, asked me a question "what books do you recommend to read?" The Secret to Success in 2004 (or any year)

Do you want to achieve your most important goals in 2004? In my opinion it gets down to two simple words, "easy" and "neglect".

People often ask me how I became successful at the early age of 31, while many of the people I knew did not. The answer is simple: During that 6-year period of time (age 25 to 31), the things I found to be easy to do, they found to be easy not to do. I found it easy to set the goals that could change my life. They found it easy not to. I found it easy to read the books that could affect my thinking and my ideas. They found that easy not to. I found it easy to attend the classes and the seminars, and to get around other successful people. They said it probably really wouldn't matter.

If I had to sum it up, I would say what I found to be easy to do, they found to be easy not to do. Six years later, I'm a millionaire and they are all still blaming the economy, the government, and company policies, yet they neglected to do the basic, easy things.

In fact, the primary reason most people are not doing as well as they could and should, can be summed up in a single word: neglect.

It is not the lack of money - banks are full of money. It is not the lack of opportunity - America, and much of the free World, continues to offer the most unprecedented and abundant opportunities in the last six thousand years of recorded history. It is not the lack of books – libraries are full of books - and they are free! It is not the schools - the classrooms are full of good teachers. We have plenty of ministers, leaders, counselors and advisors.

Everything we would ever need to become rich and powerful and sophisticated is within our reach. The major reason that so few take advantage of all that we have is simply neglect.

Neglect is like an infection. Left unchecked it will spread throughout our entire system of disciplines and eventually lead to a complete breakdown of a potentially joy-filled and prosperous human life.

Not doing the things we know we should do causes us to feel guilty and guilt leads to an erosion of self-confidence. As our self-confidence diminishes, so does the level of our activity. And as our activity diminishes, our results inevitably decline. And as our results suffer, our attitude begins to weaken. And as our attitude begins the slow shift from positive to negative, our self-confidence diminishes even more... and on and on it goes.

So my suggestion is that when giving the choice of "easy to" and "easy not to" that you do not neglect to do the simple, basic, "easy"; but potentially life-changing activities and disciplines.

To Your Success,

Jim Rohn

The Key To Success - Working Harder On Yourself Than You Do On Your Job

(I probably should have entitled this "The Key To Success?" because I am not speaking as an authority here but as an interested explorer)

I'm not sure where I first heard the expression that the key to success and wealth was "working harder on yourself than on your job", but I do remember that when I first heard it (and for many of the times thereafter), I dismissed it as not being relevant to me. I knew after all that I wasn’t going to achieve the kind of success that I was after by working in a "job". It had to be a quest or a mission for me and I had to be committed beyond the job "requirements" (or even better, to be working for myself) in order for me to be successful. So, I dismissed it and said to myself, “Definitely. Those wage slaves need to hear that so that they will free themselves from the bonds of employment and start working for themselves.”

Well, if we needed any reminder of the pitfall of the “I know that” when it comes to personal development, I submit myself as a warning to the masses. Someone once said (you’ll find that I’m not much for researching the details) that men need not so much to be taught as reminded. Well, I was “reminded” of that truth about the key to success a couple of days ago when I was listening (on my IPOD!) to Jim Rohn, “The Key To Exceptional Living”. When he said, in his distinctive voice, that the key to success was to work harder blah blah blah, I heard it in a different way.

I work very hard. I always have a lot of projects going on. I spend my time doing a lot and those efforts have gotten me to where I am right now. What I interpreted Jim to be saying is that if you want to make a “quantum leap”, always ensure that you’re working harder on self-development than on project development. What does that mean?

Well, first, it means knowing what are the Key Success Factors in your life and career? Where, if you got better, even marginally better (i.e. more skilled, more competent/confident, more effective or efficient), would there be the greatest difference in your satisfaction, your results, your performance?

I’m looking at myself now and asking that question. The answers that I’m coming up with are:

Focusing, Prioritizing, Choosing between many options

Subsection: (Not having 27 different word documents open at the bottom of my screen right now – literally)
Natural Persuasion Techniques
The Discipline of Sticking to a Schedule
Keeping my mind focused on the person that I want to become
Personal Grooming and Appearance
The Discipline of Putting/Keeping Everything in its place
Being a Loving, Empathetic husband
(I’m sure the list goes on)

I think that the message of Jim Rohn’s maxim is that it’s easy to focus on results and it’s extraordinarily important to get and measure results, but if you focus on improving yourself, making yourself better (obviously, through actions and implementation and the feedback cycle), then (a) the results will naturally follow and (b) your primary asset will have increased in value.

Stephen Covey (of 7 Habits fame) identified the 7th Habit of Highly Effective People as “Sharpening the Saw”, which meant taking time to ensure that you were continually improving as a person, employee, entrepreneur rather than simply “working at results” all the time. Covey and Rohn both recognize that the temptation (heck, even the rest of their instruction) is to improve the results and that that focus naturally can draw your attention “outside of yourself”, looking to see how other people can be changed and how stuff can be rearranged.

What I’m taking on is the following process:

(1) noticing the changes in the external world that I’d like to create and
(2) stepping back into myself and saying, “What are the internal projects that I can work on that will have the impact of creating those results but at the same time making me a better version of myself?

Maybe that’s the Protein Shake talking, but I think it sounds profound.

The Miracle of Personal Development

One day Mr. Shoaff said, "Jim, if you want to be wealthy and happy, learn this lesson well: Learn to work harder on yourself than you do on your job."

Since that time I've been working on my own personal development. And I must admit that this has been the most challenging assignment of all. This business of personal development lasts a lifetime.

You see, what you become is far more important than what you get. The important question to ask on the job is not, "What am I getting?" Instead, you should ask, "What am I becoming?" Getting and becoming are like Siamese twins: What you become directly influences what you get. Think of it this way: Most of what you have today you have attracted by becoming the person you are today.

I've also found that income rarely exceeds personal development. Sometimes income takes a lucky jump, but unless you learn to handle the responsibilities that come with it, it will usually shrink back to the amount you can handle.

If someone hands you a million dollars, you'd better hurry up and become a millionaire. A very rich man once said, "If you took all the money in the world and divided it equally among everybody, it would soon be back in the same pockets it was before."

It is hard to keep that which has not been obtained through personal development

So here's the great axiom of life:

--To Have More Than You've Got, Become More Than You Are--

This is where you should focus most of your attention. Otherwise, you just might have to contend with the axiom of not changing, which is:

--Unless You Change How You Are, You'll Always Have What You've Got--

To Your Success,

Jim Rohn

One of Lifes Great Lessons - Learn to be Thankful for What You Already Have

(excerpted from the New Jim Rohn Weekend Event DVD/CD series)

Is thankfulness a survival skill? Perhaps most of you would respond with, "No, Jim, thankfulness is not key to survival", and I would tend to agree with you. Most of us have probably already solved the necessary problems of survival, gone beyond that and are now working to achieve our desires. But let me give you this key phrase, "Learn to be thankful for what you already have, while you pursue all that you want." I believe one of the greatest and perhaps one of the simplest lessons in life we can learn is to be thankful for what we have already received and accomplished.

Both the years and the experiences have brought me here to where I stand today, but it is the thankfulness that opened the windows of opportunities, of blessings, of unique experiences to flow my way. My gratitude starts with my parents who raised me, gave me an incredible foundation that has lasted me all of these years and continues with the mentors that I've met along the way who absolutely changed and revolutionized my life, my income, my bank account, my future. I am also very thankful for the people, the associations, for the ideas, for the chance to work and labor, and to produce results, all of that has brought me to this place, to this weekend. I'm grateful for it all.

What a unique opportunity each one of you here has, so many of us; representing different countries, nations and cultures, to appreciate the uniqueness of our own experiences that has brought us all here, together, for these three days to learn new skills and sharpen old ones. For the countries we represent; we have freedom and liberty. These are extraordinary times, about eleven years ago the walls came tumbling down, in Germany, and it started a wave of democracy and freedom like the world has never seen before. We as a country and as a world have so much to be thankful for. Always start with thanksgiving; be thankful for what you already have and see the miracles that come from this one simple act.

Now thankfulness is just the beginning; next, you've got to challenge yourself to produce. Produce more ideas than you need for yourself so you can share and give your ideas away. That is called fruitfulness and abundance. Here's what I think fruitfulness and abundance mean - to go to work on producing more than you need for yourself so you can begin blessing others, blessing your nation and blessing your enterprise. Once abundance starts to come, once someone becomes incredibly productive, it's amazing what the numbers turn out to be. But to begin this incredible process of blessing, it often starts with the act of thanksgiving and gratitude, being thankful for what you already have and for what you've already done. Begin the act of thanksgiving today and watch the miracles flow your way.

To Your Success,

Learn to Deal in Challenges

(Excerpted from the 2004 Jim Rohn Weekend Leadership Event)

To really help people in extraordinary ways, learn to deal in challenges. That is what sports is all about, challenges. That is what music is all about. The challenge to play so well, someone is inspired. The challenge to say it so well someone gets it. The challenge to be so gifted in language that someone sees it. Insight is unbelievable, only human beings can do this.

The man closes his eyes and puts his hands over his eyes and says, "I see it." You say, "No, you don't, you've got your eyes closed."

No.

There is more than one way to see.

And all someone has to do is to see an answer that they can start on immediately and within six months their life could start to multiple and change. Within one year, the difference will be extraordinary and a person who was lost now becomes a person of influence. Just because someone helped them to see for the moment what was wrong and the possibility to change it. And then the challenge to go do it and do it well.

Now here is the best challenge of all, "Let's go do it." Don't always say, "You go do it, you change", but rather, "Let's get healthy, let's go change the world, let's build an enterprise, let's work on this together." See I always respond better to, "Let's".

Sometimes it is hard to lift yourself out. It's hard to be self inspired at first, and if someone says, "Come on let's start a new program", "come on let's do exercises", "come on let's get healthy", "come on let's start something. I'll be there you be there and you bring a guest and I'll bring a guest, let's start something." That is so inspiring to have somebody say, "Let's, Let's do it. Let's build a team. Let's win the championship. Let's walk off with the trophy."

"Let's" - Wow, there is something about that that can keep you awake at nights. There is something about that that turns on the juices. There is something about that that reaches deep in the soul.

For a person that could do extraordinary things when somebody says, "Let's, Let's do it". I've got two with me already if you'll be the next one we can conquer the world." You say, "Whoa. Together nobody is a match for us."

By yourself you're vulnerable; but with us, nobody is a match. You say, "Wow! I want to belong to that team." So figure out ways to say, "Let's."

To Your Success,

Personal Development Legend Jim Rohn Turns 70 and Still Going Strong

Jim Rohn, noted leader and speaker in the personal development industry, recently celebrated his 70th birthday in international style - 21 birthday cakes in 15 different cities.

The worldwide birthday celebration began in Mexico City, complete with 2,000 people and a mariachi band. Rohn then traveled to Guadalajara and from there to India, including stops in Banglador, Delhi and Bombay. Portland, OR was next on the tour with a seminar squeezed into the festivities. Departing the US, Rohn arrived in Italy where he visited Naples, Cerrito and Rome before stopping in Tuscany for the actual birthday celebration. Rohn describes the memorable event, "I was in Tuscany at this fabulous villa, and the party lasted until 5:30 in the morning. It was incredible; the Italians know how to give a party! They start to sing a song - someone gets a guitar and accordion - and away they go singing all the operas and all the rest..."

After Italy it was on to Oslo, Norway and Bon, Germany. "I was there about 3 days... big celebration. We had almost 3,000 for that one. People came from all over Europe for training and the birthday revelries." Zurich, Switzerland, Cyprus and Tel Aviv followed completing the whirlwind tour. "All the countries and celebrations were so incredible," says Rohn. "I think it totaled about 21 cakes. Multiply that by all the candles on each cake... I'm all out of breath from blowing them out. I think it might be the longest birthday party ever, each country unique. It's a birthday I'll never forget."

Jim Rohn's 70th birthday marked 39 plus years of traveling and sharing his philosophies and principles for success to more than 5,000 audiences and 3 million people worldwide.

Rohn has been hailed over the years as a major influence to an entire generation of personal development trainers and speakers. Motivational speaker, Anthony Robbins, credits Rohn as his first mentor. Testimonials about Jim by other "greats" like Harvey Mackay, Les Brown, Mark Victor Hansen and Brian Tracy read like a "Who's Who" of the motivational world.

Rohn's beginnings were obscure at best, an only child raised in a small Idaho farming town. After a less than ambitious start, Jim, at age 25, met Earl Shoaff, a man that dramatically altered the course of his life. Shoaff is credited with introducing him to the concepts of personal development that helped him achieve personal and financial success. In addition, Rohn is quick to credit the teachings, wisdom and spiritual heritage learned from his parents as a major influence in his life.

Jim Rohn's own training centers around personal responsibility as well as personal growth. He encourages his audiences to not only work hard at their jobs but to also work hard on themselves. "You don't pursue success, you attract success by the person you become," he says. Rohn also adds, "The major key to your future is YOU, it's not the economy, not prices in the marketplace, not the government or even taxes."

Rohn is best known for his one-day seminar titled, "The Challenge to Succeed" and his two-day, weekend seminar, "Strategies for the 21st Century". Although both have evolved over the years, he maintains that the fundamentals principles, "the basics", never change. "21 years ago when a young Mark Hughes, founder of Herbalife, sat in my audience and 17 years ago when Anthony Robbins heard me speak, they heard the basic truths. There are no new fundamentals. Truth has not changed, our environment and how we function continually changes, but the basics do not. Summer always follows winter. It has been this way for the past 6,000 years of recorded history. So too are the fundamentals that govern success." says Rohn.

Although some on the "outside" might categorize Jim Rohn as a motivator or entertainer, he's quick to dispute this generalization. "My good friend, Zig Ziglar and I have had this running debate all these years. Zig says you must motivate people first, I say educate first. If you motivate an idiot, you now have a motivated idiot. Educate then motivate." Rohn credits Zig with being one of the all-time greats, not only as a speaker and motivator but also as a friend.

Jim Rohn, even at age 70, maintains a rigorous schedule traveling and speaking. This year includes 145 appearances combining both corporate clients and public seminars. In addition, he provides material for articles featured in his free weekly email newsletter. Rohn uses the Internet to reach thousands with his personal development message through both the website www.jimrohn.com and his email newsletter. His readership totals over 38,000 weekly subscribers in 100 countries. Although he receives thousands of requests for personal mentoring and advice from fans, he is not available for one-on-one coaching or counseling. Rohn instead uses seminars, audios and books as well as his newsletter to coach and counsel in large groups. "Now at age 70, I'm more aware than ever of the importance of time. I don't think in terms of 10, 20 or 30 years anymore but instead 10, 20 and 30 more summers or Christmas holidays with my family."

Although Jim looks forward to slowing his traveling pace in the future, he's not ready for that yet. "I feel like I'm 40 and am in incredible shape, which is a requirement when you travel internationally and work as much as I do." When we check back with Jim when he turns 80 to see if he's slowing down, we know we'll get the answer, "I'm booked." Like the late George Burns, Rohn has already booked himself to speak on his 100th birthday. Laughs Rohn, "That just might surpass my 70th birthday celebration..."

Mr. Shoaff's Simple Strategies to Success

(Excerpted from the Jim Rohn Sampler single CD)

My first mentor, Mr. Shoaff, over a six-year period from the time I was 25 to age 31, taught me some extraordinarily simple things, before his untimely passing at age 49. He only went through the 9th grade in school. He never finished high school, never went to college, never went to a university. So he put his experiences and ideas in very simple language, which, I think for me - kid from the farms of Idaho - was so important. When I would say, "This is all the company pays." Mr. Shoaff would say, "No, that is all they pay You." I thought, "That is a new to look at it." I told him things cost too much. But he said, "No, you can't afford them."

Well, that was a new concept for me. He promised that if I would improve, then I would qualify for more money. So I learned that we don't have to work on the company, we have to work on ourselves. Now if it had been technical, I would have missed it. If it had been mystic, I would have backed away. But it was just basic, blunt "a-b-c" stuff that I hadn't thought of before. For me it was the beginning of what he called "personal development".

Mr. Shoaff also taught me that life puts some of the more valuable things on the high shelf so that you can't get to them until you qualify. If you want the things on the high shelf, you must stand on the books you read. With every book you read, you get to stand a little higher.

And the "biggie" that forever had an impact on me, "Success is something you attract by the person you become." That phrase changed my life. Success is not to be pursued, but to be attracted by the person you become. Put your energy into becoming a better you, the best you. Learn the skills. Practice the skills. Attract the success.

Those few simple strategies and ideas helped change my life, forever, for the better. Thank you, once again, Mr. Shoaff.

To Your Success,

Jim Rohn

Top 10 Lessons From Anthony Robbins

Tony Robbins (pet name), gives 10 instant Life Transforming Lessons. These are the lessons used by millions all over the globe, given by Anthony Robbins.

1) By altering your body’s physiology, you can achieve an immediate change of your emotional state. The mind will follow whatever state your physical body is in and not vice-versa.

2) Ask specific questions of yourself (in your self-talk) to direct and control your attention to the various aspects of the human experience. The quality of your life is in direct proportion to the quality of the questions you ask of yourself.

3) Get leverage to create personal change by associating an old behavior with massive pain and the desired new behavior with massive pleasure. Tony is a big believer in the pain/pleasure principles of life and this applies in business as well.

4) When you get stuck, interrupt your limiting pattern by doing something totally unexpected.

5) You can condition your behavior by visualizing it over and over again. This is not exactly unique to Tony Robbins, but he does reinforce this message in all of his products.

6) Goal-setting strategy: Know your end outcome; Take massive intelligent action; Have sensory-acuity to notice if you are getting the results you desire and if not; change your approach; and change *until* you get your end outcome.

7) Create a “Compelling future” by vividly imagining your end result to generate enthusiasm and power within yourself. The past does not equal the future. Find beliefs that support your goals and desires.

8) Youth is Power! This is one of Tony’s beliefs. Even if you don’t have fancy degrees, your youth can still mean power, flexibility and opportunity for your life.

9) Principles of CANI! CANI stands for Constant And Never-ending Improvement. It’s a basic tenet of Tony Robbins.

10) NLP can be useful. NLP stands for Neuro Linguistic Programming and there are many NLP undertones in Tony’s basic tenets. He went on to morph NLP into his own technology called “NAC” (Neuro Associative Conditioning).

Think and Grow Rich

Napoleon Hill wrote the book “Think and Grow Rich”. It holds the distinction of being one of the number one bestsellers of all time! It dwells on self-development, which Hill called “the Philosophy of Achievement”. He said he knew the secret of achievement, and yet he never specifically unveiled in his writings. He felt it was up to the reader to work it out for him or herself. In this way the eventual “Eureka” would prove to be a much more significant learning experience than having the information spoon fed, piece by piece.

The birth of this monumental writing project that was in the fullness of time to turn into “Think and Grow Rich”, commenced in 1908 when Hill was assigned to interview steel magnate and multi-millionaire Andrew Carnegie. Carnegie was insistent that the secret of success could be spelled out via a simple formula that most people would find easy to replicate. As a result of the meeting, in which he was so impressed by Hill that he commissioned him to question 500 successful people to ascertain whether his and their success secrets were the same. If they were, he charged Napoleon Hill to publish the results for the entire world to see!

To complete the project Hill interviewed many of the rich and famous of the day. His list of subjects included Thomas Edison, telephone inventor Alexander Graham Bell, camera manufacturer Thomas Eastman, automobile producer Henry Ford, a Rockefeller, candy tycoon Wrigley, Woolworth and American Presidents Teddy Roosevelt, Roosevelt’s successor William Taft and his follow on Woodrow Wilson. The author quickly discovered he had embraced an enormous task. A work that was to take him twenty years to complete. In 1928 Carnegie and Hill wrote a book and published the results in “The: Law of Success.”

Hill later distilled the success formula and this became the international bestseller “Think and Grow Rich” which came out in 1937. The book has sold more than 30 million copies since it initially appeared. This success prescription is a version of the famous “Carnegie Secret”. This Hill was told if taught to students would cut the time spent in school by half. The author described it as “a conception which is the foundation of all success.” He reiterates the secret in every chapter of the book, but in an oblique fashion.

What is their secret? For starters.”What you focus on you will attract.” This attraction is like magnetism and will bring the people and opportunities into your life to make the goal possible. It is important that your have fire in the belly and all consuming desire to meet the objective. If your desire is great enough then nothing can stop you achieving your goal! He called this phenomenon “the law of like minded attraction”. There is a codicil, however, and that dictates the desire must be for the greater good of all. Moreover, Hill stresses that those who are prepared to use this formula in their lives will achieve riches in many forms. Several people who have followed the teachings of “Think and Grow Rich” have become phenomenally successful including the billionaire Arthur Wiilliams.

Perhaps, you too have discovered some secrets about the infallible laws of the Universe that have changed your life and you feel could help others in a similar way to Hill’s revelations in “Think and Grow Rich.” Perhaps, the time has come to embark on that project and change your life to quote Napoleon Hill: ”Whatever the mind of man can conceive and believe it can achieve!”

Success Secret: Work & Grow Rich!

Undoubtedly, you’ve come across these wealth-building expressions:

“Nobody ever got rich working for a living.”

“Nobody ever got rich working for somebody else.”

“I’d rather work smarter than harder!”

If you were to build these notions into book titles, you just might come up with a monster best-seller like THINK & GROW RICH or THE LAZY MAN’S WAY TO RICHES.

But are these notions true? Is striking out on your own the best way to get rich or to strike out?

Look at the career of Mr. Eisner, Chairman of The Walt Disney Company. Years ago, he cut a deal for some hefty stock options instead of a large, set salary.

And by doing so, one year, he earned over $40 million, which even after taxes, qualified him as “rich.”

He worked for a living, and worked for somebody else, too, but that didn’t stop him from amassing wealth.

Lots of other CEO’s are also members of the “working rich.”

I don’t know where hacks get the idea that you can just dream your way to success; that lofty goals and self-affirmations will, by themselves, take you from rags to riches.

There is a beautiful film that you can check out on video, “Local Hero,” about a corporate climber who is sent to Scotland to negotiate oil development rights. He encounters a beachcomber who lives in a shack so small that to enter, you have to climb through a window.

This gent, Mr. Knox, actually OWNS the stretch of beach on which his shack sets, and that beach is worth a ton to the interested oil company.

But Mr. Knox doesn’t want to sell because, as he puts it, “This beach is my living; I work it. Everyone has to work!”

Technically, he’s rich, and if he’ll just say yes to the oil man's offer, he won’t have to work. He can be idle.

But Knox's wealth isn’t the value of his beach, but is found in his attitude, that work is good, proper, and really inescapable.

So, if you want an affirmation, perhaps you should choose this one:

“The harder I work, the luckier I get.”

In the meantime, don't be surprised if the next book I write is titled: WORK & GROW RICH!
